AND PK (OVR) NAME Ht. Wt. POS SCHOOL
1 31 Michael Patterson 5-11 292 DT Southern California
Gil Brandt's Analysis - Patterson could be called "Going Jessie" -- a term used for a guy that never stops playing hard. That's Patterson. They double- and triple-team him, and he still produces. His only negative is his height, but he does compensate for it with 32-plus-inch arms. He's a really good player. Kirwan on Patterson: Mike Patterson is an undersized fire plug nose tackle who can be very disruptive inside. Corey Simon will learn a lesson in how to play hard every down from him. The Eagles like to 'zone dog' their defensive linemen into coverage, and Patterson has the athletic ability to do that. I know Patterson very well, and he will give the Eagles the same things John Randle gave the Vikings and Seahawks.
2 35 Reggie Brown 6-1 197 WR Georgia
Pat Kirwan's Analysis - One of the two Georgia receivers in this draft that created a terrific passing attack in Georgia. In talking to the Eagles coaches, they wanted him to be there in the second round. He has good speed and good athleticism. He impressed me at the Senior Bowl with his route running and his hands. He snatches the football. He needs some work on routes over the middle, but in an interview I had with him, he convinced me he was willing to work at it. This should spell the end of Freddie Mitchell's stay in Philadelphia. A very good pick. Carucci on Brown: Reggie Brown has plenty of athletic ability, especially speed. The big question with him is, does he have the motivation to realize his full potential? He hasn't shown it on a consistent basis in college. Andy Reid and the Eagles' coaching staff are capable of pushing him to produce more as a professional.
2 63 Matt McCoy 6-0 234 OLB San Diego State
Gil Brandt's Analysis - McCoy wasn't invited to the combine. If you look at the Michigan film, he was credited with 16 unassisted tackles. Very good speed, high-production player and also should be a very good special teams player.
3 77 Ryan Moats 5-8 210 RB Louisiana Tech
Gil Brandt's Analysis - Moats grew up in Dallas and really ran the ball well at Louisiana Tech (1,800 yards). His team was overmatched in most games but he still did well. He's a pretty good receiver as well.
3 (Traded to SF)
4 102 Sean Considine 6-0 206 FS Iowa
Gil Brandt's Analysis - I thought he would go yesterday. He really played well this year and impressed people at the combine. Kirwan's notes: A safety that runs a 3.92 short shuttle cannot be ignored. I thought that was a great pick.
4 126 Todd Herremans 6-6 321 OT Saginaw Valley State
Gil Brandt's Analysis - This was the most worked out player in the entire draft. He had a laundry list of places he visited during the process -- not bad for a kid from Saginaw Valley State. He's a nice kid who will surprise a lot of people.
5 146 Trent Cole 6-2 257 OLB Cincinnati
Gil Brandt's Analysis - Cole has played as a defensive end but will convert to an outside linebacker in the NFL. A very solid player for Cincinnati.
5 (Traded to IND)
5 167 (Traded to GB)
5 172 Scott Young 6-4 312 G Brigham Young
Gil Brandt's Analysis - A BYU player from Salt Lake City who was tried on defense at first. He was the strongest guy at the combine (40-plus strength lifts).
6 175 (Traded to GB)
6 205 (Traded to SF)
6 211 Calvin Armstrong 6-7 325 OT Washington State
Gil Brandt's Analysis - A big offensive tackle from Washington State. He is 6-7 1/8, 325 pounds. Doesn;t run real fast. I had him projected as a sixth-rounder, just where he was picked.
7 (Traded to GB)
7 247 Keyonta Marshall 6-0 338 DT Grand Valley State
Gil Brandt's Analysis - Marshall is a short (6-0 5/8, 338, 5.25) defensive run stopper. An inside run stuffer.
7 252 David Bergeron 6-3 245 ILB Stanford
Gil Brandt's Analysis - An inside linebacker who is 6-3, 245 pounds and ran a 4.70 in the 40-yard dash.
