Eagles sign Wheeler
Philadelphia, PA (TSN) - The Philadelphia Eagles announced on
Wednesday that they have signed defensive tackle Mark Wheeler
to a four-year contract. As per club policy, no financial terms
were disclosed.
The 28-year-old Wheeler is entering his eighth NFL season after
spending his first four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and
the last three with the New England Patriots.
Wheeler has been a versatile player over his career, playing
all defensive tackle positions. He has played in 95 NFL games
and six postseason contests, including the Patriots' Super Bowl
XXXI loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound tackle saw action in 10 games last year
for the Patriots and posted 26 tackles. For his career, he has
amassed 273 tackles, including 16 sacks. In his rookie campaign
with the Bucs, Wheeler started all 16 games at nose tackle and
finished with 61 tackles, including five sacks.
After transferring from Navarro Junior College, Wheeler played
two seasons at Texas A&M, where he was a teammate of current
Eagle linebacker William Thomas.
