Eagles sign Wheeler

Philadelphia, PA (TSN) - The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Wednesday that they have signed defensive tackle Mark Wheeler to a four-year contract. As per club policy, no financial terms were disclosed.

The 28-year-old Wheeler is entering his eighth NFL season after spending his first four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the last three with the New England Patriots.

Wheeler has been a versatile player over his career, playing all defensive tackle positions. He has played in 95 NFL games and six postseason contests, including the Patriots' Super Bowl XXXI loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound tackle saw action in 10 games last year for the Patriots and posted 26 tackles. For his career, he has amassed 273 tackles, including 16 sacks. In his rookie campaign with the Bucs, Wheeler started all 16 games at nose tackle and finished with 61 tackles, including five sacks.

After transferring from Navarro Junior College, Wheeler played two seasons at Texas A&M, where he was a teammate of current Eagle linebacker William Thomas.
